Gene -- Thanks for the visit and part today. Remind me again of the condition of the unit, as it looks like I will have to use it to replace the driver's knee on the car. Do you know its history? Was it rebuilt? Is the spindle arm seal good? On mine, I removed the inside shaft cover to see if I couldn't drive the spindle arm out a little with a drift, because I couldn't get it out (pipe wrench worked great on the spindle nut) as we discussed, and noticed needle bearings protruding out cockeyed and a lot of grit and the shaft itself a little off center, as if the bore was quite worn. Still can't get the cap off the housing to relieve inner spring pressure, which would permit disassembly. Also, didn't find any of the graphite rope you mentined, so am looking for something else that might perform as the seal we discussed. I really appreciate you time and conversation today. Jim

Jim, Looking back I can't recall if I even attempted to install the unit.It was rebuilt when I got it (an old rebuild) and I would feel that its worth the effort to install it and give it a try. If its does leak the packing nut could be tightened more I'm sure or a "reseal" job done at a later date.It sure will be better than the one you have. When I backed out the '34 today I found two more knees under it but they are both rights.Believe it or not I did get it out danceI will continuse to look for the rope in event that you will be needing it.Good Luck,Gene

Gene -- Think I have an idea where to get the graphite rope after touring the Web. If the rights are for sale and I have similar problems with my right (tackling that unit tomorrow) you might have a repeat customer. Again, thanks for you kindness and help. Jim
