You gotta admit the French put a little pizazz in the old 38 Chevrolet coupe. How does the Landua bar work on the convertible top? Landau means a fake convertible......Is this car a convertible or not?

It says Cabriolet. So you say it's not a convertible? I'm not sure. Did you notice no vent glass? Somebody put a ton of work in this old car.

Does the trunk open sideways? If it does it must open with the spare on the lid !!. Isn't that a handle I see in the top left corner?

No idea... I do know that car (the '38) was owned for years by a former VCCA member. I think that a lot of claims like "1 of 2 known" may mean "1 of two known to me"! With the advent of the internet, I think we will all see more of these international bodied cars "found". Not to say that they are not super-rare, just that 20 years ago, there was no way to really know what was going on in the antique hobby on the other side of the world. I know the former owner of the '38 had written in the G&D many years ago that it was 1 of 2 known to him at the time. I'm no expert on the foreign cars by any means, but that car (the'37)may be bodied by Glaser. They did work with Chevrolet Chassis in the thirties, with examples known from as early as 1932. They also bodied Fords as well.

Not really... just from googling and reading a 40 year supply of G&D's!

Here's one of Glaser's Fords... Kind of Mercedes-looking, eh?

The 38 looks like the car once owned by Bob Gower I think from Seattle?

Yep... And it has also been on the cover of the G&D.

Off the top of my head, I thought that his was "one of three" that were built just before Hitler shut them down.

We can find out if anyone is really interested.

Bob Gower's was one of 2 built on a Chevrolet Chassis out of 10 built by Antem Coachworks of Paris France. From "My Story", G&D Sept. 1998. Hitler would not have been involved, as he arrived in Paris in 1940...

As an aside... it would be great if we were able to do some additional research on these facts today. Not to diminish Mr.Gower's research, but often information from a former owner can get out of touch with reality, especially when factoring in the value of a car. With the use of the forum, and contact with a wider base of European members, it would be neat to see how much more info could come up on both Antem and Glaser.

Wow, that '37 is stunning. The original lines on a '37 Chevy are gorgeous enough...but man does that car really make a statement. Great pics, and great story on these rare birds.

I think the stylist nailed the right look with the chrome sweep on the rear matching the front fender sweep. I'd love to see it with skirts, and the top up!
