Got a steering wheel that has cracks on the outer bakelite?/hard rubber? hand grip rim, that are in line with the 3 spokes, and appear to just going into the end of the spokes. They appear to be caused by the steering wheel being exposed to the sun.Does anyone know of a way I can repair the cracks without having to get the whole wheel re-done?

I have groved cracks in steering wheels and then filled with JB Weld or other types of epoxy and sanding to shape and painting the whole wheel. Chuick

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.I just want to be sure that the JB Weld will stick to the bakelite/hard rubber, and would like to know what sort of paint to use to re-paint the wheel.

Hello CJP'S 29,
Try looking at the Eastwood.com website and type 'steering wheel paint' in the search window. There are seven products to view, so you should find some usefull information.

Urethane is best as it will wear like iron. Can also use an acrylic enamel with catalyst added. Key is light thin coats so you get a high gloss surface without runs or drips and yet get it all coated.

Or you can just buy a new wheel from me which is ready to install. It has all the detail that an NOS wheel would have and looks great.
