well i check the oil pressure and cold it was 40 psi and hot it about 5 psi so that might explain why the lifters are the way they are ,so i might not need lifters ,and that might explain the knock ??so i guess i need to change the oil pump first and see ,

lilrobo, If the pump can put out 40psi cold (assuming your gauge is correct) then if it drops to 5psi hot the oil pump is probably ok but the engine bearing clearances are excessive. Maybe that motor has more miles on it than you think? Usually, good low mileage motors fall from 40 to 15-20 hot. Since replacing the pump requires the oil pan off ypu might as well check a center main and several rod bearings. Severe wear to bearings or journals should be obvious.

I agree that the 40 pisg hot and 5 psig cold oil pressure indicates excessive internal oil leakage. Gaps in main bearings and other large oiled bearings or bushings are the major regulators of oil pressure loss. Of course heat is another factor so it is possible for the oil pressure loss. If the oil is getting excessively hot it might be a cause of the lifter noise. What oil viscosity are you using?

Well now what do i do? I dont want to spend alot of money on this motor,i just wanted to get it running, until this winter and maybe change it to v8 , i was told it would be cheaper to swap to v8 rather than rebuild ths 6 cl ?. I dont know now

Thanks for the replies
