Little background, I have a freshly rebuilt 235, approximately 500 miles on motor. Break in oil changed-running Penzoil 10W 30 with zddp additive.
Also has rebuilt carburetor as when I had the car out in March had trouble starting it carb was starving for fuel after sitting for 1 hour following a 1/2 hr drive
(replaced accelerator pump as part of carb rebuild)

dialed in the timing and drove the car 2 weeks ago on a 60 mile trip and it ran great

Last weekend took a very short trip ( motor up to temp) and as I was returning home the car seemed to be starving for fuel at 30-35mph. and then backfired.

Any suggestions?

May have some crud that has broke loose in fuel tank and may be obstructing the fuel flow, or is getting in the float needle valve. How about the fuel pump, has it been rebuilt with new gasoline resistant parts? Also be sure that all the parts of the air cleaner are intact and clean. Your problems (Gremlins)from March may still be the problem.

Mr Mack I think your right, my gremlin never left . I tried to start her this evening and nothing, bone dry. I took off the fuel line at the carb and no fuel. The fuel pump was a new rebuilt unit from the auto parts store I put on the fresh motor.

Tomorrow I'll put the old AC fuel pump that was on when I pulled the motor(I was going to keep as a spare for road trips)

hope its not crud that has broke loose in fuel tank nd there is fuel in the line to the pump.

Thanks, Brad

I disconnected my fuel line at the pump and used compressed air to blow back towards the tank...Remove the Filler Cap and listen for bubbles... I didn't hear any...:(

I followed the steps in my shop manual, no fuel from pump to carb, disconnected pump to tank line was going to blow air in line, but seemed to have good flow. So I put old AC fuel pump back on and it pumped a good flow(don't have gauge) took the car out Saturday night 40 miles no problem. hope its all good now, planning to make Central Meet in 2 weeks
