Is there a special nut to attach the 1929 Headlight Stantions to the apron? Becasue of the location of the nut, using a conventional nut is hell to work with and just about impossible. Thanks for the help.

On my 30, it's a slotted screw. I used stainless steel.

What he is looking for is a u shaped nut clip that fits over the edge of the frame rail. There are two for each side that the screw threads into to hold down the stanchion ferule. They are about 1-3/4" long and I think have a 1/4" nut welded to the bottom side. The front splash apron covers all of this making it difficult to get a regular nut in there.

Assuming they are similar to those clips used in '31, I will post pic first chance I get, they would be relatively easy to make in a shop with basic spot welding gear.

They're available from Restoration Specialties & Supply in Windber, PA. Look here:

I have posted a photo left of the clips used on '31's to hold fender in place. May be same/similar to what you need? Easy to make from 1/16" stock if you have a 1/4" tap set, no welding needed.

David, it's "Extruded U-Nuts", P/N 10052, on Page 218 of the catalogue. The fastener is an oval head slotted screw, 5/16-18 x 1" long, available in stainless steel from McMaster-Carr or from the stainless fastener vendors at most of the major swap meets, or from me for multiple adult beverages.

Hope that helps.

Darn. Guess I'll have to by my own next round.

Good luck with it.

Hey Chip, as a matter of interest.... is that fastener (the one for the candlestick) the same as the one used to hold in the dashboard panel?

Andrew

While the rest of the crew may be in the same predicament, it's almost always the pilot's job to arrive at the crash site first.

I believe the screws for the dashboard are slotted oven head screws rather than round head............

But I don't have my parts book at hand at the moment.
