i see were talking seats. so what kind of seat would a 31 1/2 ton have? there were two sets of seat springs with this thing, but they looked like they are one back and one for the bottom.allso there is a wood frame that the bottom springs mount to. i've been reading that the bottom was a two part, the passenger side would lift to fill the gas tank. oh and were is the gas tank on one of these?
thanks jay d

The 1931 1/2 ton trucks (pickups) had a right and left bottom cushion and single back. That is for both the open and closed cab trucks. The springs are all mounted on wooden frames.

The gas tank is mounted under the seat in the cab. Gas cap and fill location is under the drivers seat.

Is there anything that holds the back of the seat in place or is it just propped/ leaned up in place ??

Generally there are clips on the backside of the back seat frame that slide into shallow "U" shaped brackets (or a straight metal piece over a groove in the wood body cross piece behind the seat. The clip has an offset so it can attach to the wooden frame (has springs strapped to it and maybe fabric nailed to it).

The bottom seat frames typically have blocks or metal brackets screwed to the bottom that fit into the wooden box supporting the seat. Those keep the bottom in place and allow the bottom cushion to be removed so fuel can be added to the tank.

OK, Box Seat Box (As I will Call it) is a wooden fram box with a metal frame support around it. I can see that the bottom seats will SIT inside the metal frame (lip) and stay put. But as for the rear/ back of the seat can not visualize that one, as my truck came in pieces !! If you have any pictures or sketches that would be Great, or if any of my misc parts i have look like something that may be for the seat.

Also need to figure out how they secure the Back wall in behind the seat >!<

Oh the joy of building a puzzle with out instructions, or a guide to go by
