Are the key blanks on the 26 the same has the 27?

The key for the 1926 is a piece of metal with square cutouts along both edges. The switch is located on the dash in the center of the headlight switch. The 27 key is similar to many keys we use today. It is a double sided cut. The lock is located on the under edge of the dash on the right side of the steering column. This key controls a mechanical function (locking the steering column) and releases a lever that is used to turn on the ignition. For the record the, 1925 cars are the same as the 1926, and the 1928 cars are the same as the 1927.

The keys may be the same 1925/1926,but the light switch lever & bezel are nickle plated on '25's here in Australia,whereas the 1926 switches use an aluminium switch lever and an aluminium bezel.

You are correct. All instruments on the 26 are aluminum, vs, the nickle on the 25.

Thanks alot I was sure there was but Thought I should ask. Looking for a door lock and key and the person told me they were the same as 27 and 8. Iam glad I asked Roger

Hi, and welcome aboard. We are glad to see you drop in and hope you select to join us. If you are restoring a 1927 you can get some good advice here. To get a key for your 27 it will be necessary to remove the lock mechanism from the car and then remove the cylinder. The cylinder will have a key code. There were two manufacturers of the locks for the 27. Send the cylinder to one of the specialists listed in the back of the G&D. They have the correct blanks and can cut the code.

Thank you for the key info. We are way new at this. I feel really dumb asking this but what is the G & D? We think our '27 is well preserved but it does need wood door frames and the top needs replacing. There are some wood slats there so maybe we have the start of a pattern. We are just starting our project. Mrs. CBPayne58.
