On my 51 powerglide, got a clicking noise when I slow down. Happens 10 mph and under. When I take off again, noise isn't there. Thought it was the speedo, but now that window down weather is here, it sounds like its coming from under the car on left side. U joint is new, wheel bearings have been cleaned and repacked. Any idea's? Only when slowing down and coming to a stop

Could it be a rock in a tire tread or maybe something in a hubcap, or brake drum?

Is it a rapid clicking relating to the size and rotation of a bearing or drive shaft or is it slower as if from a tire with much larger diameter and slower rotation? talk

Nothing in the tire or hub cap. Was there before and after I did front brakes and cleaned and re packed the front wheel bearings. It is a more rapid or faster sounding clicking than something in a tire tread. I'll have to try hanging out of the door with my wife steering to try and pinpoint it monkey
Sounds like it could be coming from the transmission

The early two speed PowerGlide transmission governor weights would make an audible clicking sound at low vehicle speeds but I don't think your '51 was so eguipped unless the transmission has been updated. If you have a later transmission and the governor is the source of the noise you'll just need to live with it. That's the way they were.

Thats what I suspected at first was governor weights, but I believe the transmission to be original, because when I take off in Drive, it does not start out in first, it starts out in High gear

The only problem is that the 1950-1952 Power Glide does not have a governor.

Did you jack the front and rotate the wheel to listen for noise? That would narrow it down to a wheel bearing. Maybe it just needs a re-pack??

Sometimes it's the simplest things.

Shift it into neutral before coming to a stop, no noise. Interesting.

sounds like your tranny. Try the easy stuff first like fluid.
Hopefully you have some transmission shops that know their way around a powerglide. Have heard horror stories in my neck of the woods. Good luck.

Yeah, tranmission works fine, no other issues whatsoever, I only put 2k miles a year on the car and it only has 36k total on it, so until it gets worse or something else goes wrong, I'll continue to drive it
