I'm beginnng to think that a 38 chevrolet with the accessory spotlight is really rare. I've googled interior shots of 38 chevys and looked at dozens of sites,I've only seen two that had the spotlight. The photos didn't show really good shots of the spotlight from the inside. some have dummy spotlights but not the orginal type shown in the accessory book. Are they really rare.? Has anyone even seen one before on a 38 chevrolet?

Back in 1938 the country was still in the depression and nobody had money to spend on accessories, The only folks that had a need for a spotlight was the police or any other emergency response vehicles that had to find a address in the dark.
I have seen a lot of Dummy spotlights but I have seen more Dummies with spotlights, who for some strange reason find it a rush to their ego to say .."look what I got" and you don't Na,Na,Na.Na.Na...I would never think of drilling a hole in my wonderful old coupe to add something that was not on it when I got it.....The way I see it is I am the caretaker of this Old car and that makes me it's protector also Amen...ED

My word...ain't we testy today...! But, I'll have to admit I can think of other things I'd like to do to my jolopy in the way of improvements that would come way before a...what were we talking about...? Oh yeah, drilling holes in the car and getting all tangled up in the wiring...Hey, how about using a firearm to put the hole in the car for the spotlight...Now that would be a real conversation piece...!

A 45 might do the job nicely.
Shooting from inside out will prevent damaging the seat covers.
Note this is mentioned only as a joke using firearms irresponsibly is deadly dangerous.

Kevin.Testy you say???...No nothing but love here.
If you read a few of my past post's you would know that I have already suggested to Steve to take his trusty 30/30 deer rifle and inflict the fatal hole in his fake 38 MD to install his spotlight.....Were does he go from here ??
WE here at VCCA should have, on board. (as I suggested in the past ) a full time ,on call, shrink to try to intervene to help protect our fellow members from themselves.
I would hate to hear of one of our members who was so despondent to barricaded themselves in their garage with their car with the motor running because they could not find anymore accessories to install on them ...Don't you think...ED

My old coupe is exactly correct for the year model....hahaha
Like I said before I just want to fix it up with the accessories that are in the accessories book. It can be a repo,as long as it looks SORTA like the orginal. It's never gonna be correct or a show car, just an old car that I use to have when I was a kid that I never got to play with and spend money on. I am getting worried about how "upsidedown" I am, but ..to late now. No chance of me leaving the motor running in the garage. (40 cal Glock)

Eastern Ed,

Sounds to me like you don't have a spot light.

Why rag on folks that like to put certain accessories on their cars? Not all of them, of course, but a few that enhance the looks of the car. A 38 could even use a set of wheel trim rings, if nothing else. carbana Be honest, they sure need something. Don't they?

If you skip up to the 41, auto there are many nice accessories that FURTHER enhance the natural beauty of the car. luv2 Although none are really needed, sleek as it is, the accessory book is loaded with nice beautiful and/or functional stuff. dance

Whilst I'm a-crusing around in my accessory loaded 41, I'll try to keep in mind that you are creeping around in your "plain Jane38" and are:

a. Bored without a radio to even pull in WCKY. rockband

b. Ice in your veins because you have no heater. snoman

c. No fancy hood ornament to marvel at. freak

d. Unable to pass because you hate passing lights and have no town and country horn to even signal your intent (just that little standard "beepie" thing that sounds about like what came on a Schwinn.) orangeupset

e. No banjo (except the 5-string in the trunk, of course) court

f. Four sheets to the wind, and lost without a compass. willy

g. No spotlight to find house numbers so's you can orient yourself. bike

h. And, the gas being sucked outta your tank 'cause you don't have no doggone locking gas cap. monkey

That ought to learn ya! dance croc

By the way, how come your so upset over a little ol' spotlight? At least Steve is trying to do it right by forgoing those fake ones. Agrin

Best,
Charlie computer

BTW: Just messing with you. Agrin

BTW2. Forget retaliation: You're toast.

Steve,

Three things"

A. I think they had them as an accessory.

B. It seems there would have been some installed. Recovering from the Great Depression, or not.

C. I don't recall ever seeing one specifically. Then again, it doesn't take me long to look at a 38. Sorry. hood You know. Agrin

The spotlight is "S-1" same as '37. I have a spotlight on my '37 coupe and my '37 convertible. I don't know as much as you guys about this cybernetic stuff so am in the dark about posting pics but would be happy to send any shots of anything you might want to see.

Hello
Just saw the pic of your 38 lowrider!! what a great looking ride!! Wish it showed the whole car!! And love the accessories!! Im really interested in the outside rear view mirrors. I have right and left but they are very short and can't be adjusted to be able to see anything worthwhile. Did they come from Chevs of the 40's and if so what's the part # and are you happy with how they work? I think they would look great on my 37MD!
Thanks
Ray

I kinda like those mirrors, too. The clamp-on style always seems to chip the paint...Do they come with any rubber padding...? Thanks for sharing, Kevin

Brewster,

Nice photos of beautiful cars. My favorite one is the 1950 convertible.

I noted that there were no photos of a 1941. Mercy!

Just to be clear, those are not my photos... I found them on the Puget Sound Region's website. To look at all of the regions and their websites, go to the VCCA Home page, and under "Club Info", click "Regions". If a region has a website, the name will be highlighted in blue letters. Double click that name to get the link. Some regions do a great job of posting pictures... others, not so much! It'll take you a few hours to get through all of the regions and pictures!

And Charlie... you just have to dig a little deeper into that region to find a '41...

Brewster,

Thanks so much for these photos. I enjoyed looking at them. Especially the shot of the 1941 luv2 easily overtaking and beginning to pass that nice 1938 hood being driven wide open in a futile attempt to escape certain embarrassment. dance That was really cool! pineapple

A 1941 doesn't take too kindly to eating anything else's dust. bike Especially, a 1938. It just won't put up with for long. You know. Agrin

Thanks again,

Brewster,

No. The shot of the 32 followed by the 41 is way back down the road course. The shot I'm speaking about is the one where the 41 is overtaking the real pretty two-tone brown 38. What a race!

Eventually, the 41 surely passed them all in short order but there is a certain thrill -like no other (well, a congenial visit at the prison comes to mind but, yet, somehow, not quite as continually satisfying)- as passing a 38. I don't know why that is. Maybe it's because the dang little things (38s) are so cute and that the owners know it. Go figure. Agrin
