I plan to buy new wide white wall 6.00x16 tires for my old 1940 Master Deluxe 2-door, since even though the tires on it now only have probably 100 miles on them, they are 35 years old and not to be trusted.

Have any of you guys had any experience with "Lester" tires? They SEEM to be the most tire for the lowest price compared to Goodrich, Firestone, Coker, etc. and are 6-ply vs 4-ply for the rest. They also have a slightly wider tread. Being a novice, I had never heard of them before I saw their ad on the Hemming web site.

Any opinions?

Doc

Hi DocB,

I guess it depends on what the future is for the car. If you plan on entering it into VCCA judging that is a bad choice as you would be chastized for the non stock tires. However, if you have a 'driver', the Lester tire would problaby serve you very well.

For judging you should have a brand of tire on your car that was at least available during the year of your car.

Doc,I would recommend the BF Goodrich tires for your size and car.The white walls stay whiter, the white wall width looks most correct and I have had very good luck with them.I have Firestones on two cars and they are OK but the white walls tend to yellow if out in the sun. Had Lesters on my "39 and the white walls looked too wide and they developed radial cracks. The Goodrich also look more like the tires from the fortys. Goodrich was one of the brands used by Chev in the thirtys and fortys and the tread desing on the new tires is what the 46 to 54 cars used.
