WELL HERE IS A SUBJECT THAT MIGHT BE INTERESTING TO ALOT OF CHEVY PEOPLE. WHILE ON TOUR IN JULY IN VICTORIA CANADA, MY COIL GAVE OUT. THE 32 COIL WAS A ORIGINAL ONE AND WAS IN WORKING CONDITION UP TO THE BREAK DOWN WHILE WE WERE ON OUR SATURDAY TOUR. THE DAY BEFORE WE TOURED ABOUT 100 MILES AND HAD NO PROBLEMS. WHEN I BROKE DOWN, THE FIRST PROBLEM WAS THE PLUGGED CARB FROM THE FUEL PUMP CORK GASKET. JUST BEFORE WE LEFT FOR THE MEET I HAD SET THE C-86 SPARK PLUGS TO 45 FOR THE GAP, BECAUSE OF TODAYS GASOLINE, :) :) WHAT I WAS WONDERING IS, WITH THE PLUGS BEING HOTTER WITH A BIGGER SPARK, COULD THAT HAVE MADE THE COIL GET ALOT HOTTER AND THEN JUST QUIT WORKING?????? :) :)

THANKS FOR THE INFORMATION SKIP, I STILL HAVE PLANS TO GET MY COIL THAT QUIT WORKING, REBUILT WITH THE NEW INSIDES, BUT FIRST I HAVE TO GET THE ENGINE PROBLEM FIXED. THE GUY WHO REBUILDS COILS FOR THE PACKARD PEOPLE, WANTS ME TO BRING THE CHEVY TO HIS HOUSE SO HE CAN LOOK AT IT. MARC AT THE MACHINE SHOP SAYS DONT GO UNLESS YOU BRING THE CAR, AS THE GUY IS KIND OF DIFFERENT? :) :) :) :)

Donald, after you use the Coil Tester, Got one in your hip pocket? Then to see it will really work ok put it on a car and drive it around for a couple of hours. Then, when you have two good ones use the spare to test the system and the other car! YEAH!

Donald all you have to do is go down to NAPA and tell them you need a coil and a condenser for a 54 chevy car or truck and then in a couple of days it will be there. That will make you a good touring coil, then just change it out with the $200 rebuilt original coil for the "Big Show" also any Chevrolet coil on a Chevy with the ignition ballast resistor mounted on the firewall should work, I interchanged the one on my 1957 truck with the 53, and it ran.
