Ok.. someone says I have wide 1938 rear fenders on my 37 Chevy coupe.... are 38s really wider? Whats the best way to determine if a fender is 37 or 38? Thanks!!!!
The change from 1937 to 1937 were many. Here's one of them.
Axle increased in length from 57 and 9/16 to 59 inches. I guess the 38 fenders are ABOUT 3/4 inch wider. I'd say it would be hard to tell the difference.

I was only wrong one time in my life so far. But that time I was right, and only thought I was wrong....ED
I posted a link talking about axle change. If you read on it mentions several small changes. Check it out ,steering, springs, etc.
Steve ...If you would change your way of living (since you retired) your rear end would not be expanding so much, you would feel much better and you would not need those "fat fenders" or extended axles... Call Jenny Craig And order some of her "low fat meals" and cure those fat fender blue's ...Good Luck...ED

Yes, 37 & 38 rear fenders were different. There were 6 different pass car rear fenders for '37-'38: '37 RR Sedan was part no.593698 '37 RR Coupe/Sed Del was 592924 '37 LR Sedan & Coupe was 592923 '38 RR Sedan was part no.597280 '38 RR Coupe/Sed Del was 597276 '38 LR Sedan & Coupe was 597275 These numbers are fom a Sept 1938 parts catalog. Later, bad '37 fenders were replaced with '38s.
The new '38 body changed also, for the wider rear seat and axle. The rear fender houses were moved outwards to accomodate the 2 inch wider rear seat cushion which went to 47 inches wide.
