The number >14770D is in the middle of the open field on the left side of the dash of my 28 four door sedan.Any idea what its for?
Would this be a vin? Or is the body number (S 475) the vin?
Or did they use the engine # as a vin?

In my teens, 20s & 30s I was a "stud muffin".
Now I'm just a muffin.

The numbers on some '28 and '27 Chevy dashes has been discussed before. Don't think the reason and significance has been discovered yet. Let the discussion continue.

If you scroll to page 4 (page selection at bottom of page) you'll find 17 posts pondering same question. There is no consensus, but you might as well read all of us others with the same basic question in regard to those mysterious dash numbers. I, myself, remain almost convinced if you multiply that number by the distance to the sun and divide by the square root of a cat you'll determine the exact amount of money that you will quite happily spend to keep your '28 chevy running!
