I recently overhauled my '40 216 at 394,000 miles. I have less than 200 miles on it and the rear seal is leaking in a steady stream. This is the 4th time I have personally overhauled this engine and have never had a problem with the rear seal leaking before. Anybody know of any 'old Indian tricks' to fix this problem before I pull the engine and put a new seal in.

It souhds like you know about a 40 216 than I do if you have rebuilt it 4 times, make shur the leak is the main and not comming from higher up from a plug or the rear cam plug,if the pan will come off easy maybe the seal has turned alittle,is it a rope seal or an after market lip seal if it is the main the back of the flywhell should wet..hope it is not a big job they are not as fun the second time...doc
