Opinion(s) please: I just reassembled my engine, and in my excitement I forgot to place PermaSeal on the top on my oil pan gasket. I have made custom cork gaskets with a U cross-section at each end (have done so for years) which eliminates end leaks. What are the collective opinions on leaks along the edges without sealant? The surfaces were spotless upon reassembly.

Thanks.

Sealant is not necessary. Just a bit of insurance that some feel is mandatory. In most cases I only use a dab in each corner.

I'm with ya Chipper. Clean, flat and dry. I have been known to flatten a surface on a granete table and assemble without gaskets. I always flatten the oil pan flange in a Kurt vice to remove the waves.

Thanks again, I just needed some reassurance.
