It is easiest to remove the engine/transmission as an assembly. After you remove the hood, radiator, light bar, engine side pans, wiring, exhaust pipe, pedal assembly, transmission top, engine mount bolts & nuts, speedo cable, clutch bottom cover, etc. (probably have forgotten something) you can install the lifting sling about 2/3 toward the rear of engine. That will permit lifting the engine/transmission straight upward. It is best to support the torque tube as high as possible without binding against the floor. Place a piece of sturdy cardboard between head and firewall to keep from messing up the paint. Lift the engine/transmission assembly straight up until the clutch housing is just below the bottom of the firewall. Begin to move the assembly forward. The bottom of the flywheel should clear the cross member as all comes forward. Then you can continue to lift up so the pan clears the front cross member and the top of the transmission is under the firewall lip. You may have to rotate the assembly a bit to get around the steering column.
Despite people telling you that you can't do it the assembly can be installed reversing the extraction. The rear of the U-joint will slip over the propeller shaft splines. The transmission gears can be used to align the splines. It is necessary to support the torque tube at the highest level.
The drive shaft will not come out as it is firmly held by the pinion bearing.
