The correct color on the Fleetline Scripts on the hood is black, the “Chevrolet” on the grill is black (1947) and Red (1948), the lines on the top bar is black as well as the lines on the parking lights, the tail light medallions are suppose to be the same color as the car. A future project of mine for my website was to document the differences of the 1947 and 1948 Chevrolet’s and to show the correct colors of the parts. I have been asked many questions regarding this sort of thing and have the documentation to support it.

Thanks for that information. Regarding the tail light medallion colors......thank goodness my car is black....I painted the medallions with black stripes. Regarding the lines on the grille top bar, I have to get the artist brush out and cover the red with black......thank you.

Just the groves in the medalions under the tail lamps are body color. The little groves at the ends of the tail lamp rims are also black filled.
Most of this info is in the 1947 and 1948 Engineering material.

The lettering on my 48 top grille bar is red as it should be....

BUT the lines on either side are also red ......sounds like they should be black....so out comes the artist brush and masking tape........no wonder I haven't gotten many "Best of Show" awards lately

I am guessing the reason 1947 has black on the “CHEVROLET” is because the hood emblem has both Chevrolet red and blue and 1948 has only Chevrolet blue on its emblem, thus the red on the top grill piece. I am thinking Chevrolet wanted to represent both colors on these cars as in years past. What do you think????? FYI, also the reason for documenting the differences of 47 and 48 is to set straight the correct part/accessories such as correct emblems, accy hood birds, etc.

You use tape...? Maybe that's my problem...lol

I spent an afternoon painting my hub-caps...When I was done I realized I'd painted the "Chevrolet" red...And the rest blue...!
I'd post a picture but it's too embarrassing...

Funny part is nobodies even noticed it yet...! I kinda like it...it's different...

Johnny, I haven't got a clue why the Chevrolet lettering is black in 47 and red in 48, but I like your theory. And your reason for documenting 47/48 emblems, parts, accessories, etc. is a good one. I often see them mixed up on 47/48 cars, so that kind of documentation would be a great place to look when a question comes up.

And Kevin, next time you paint your hubcaps, please use my avatar as a guide

They did the same thing for 1949 and 1950. In 1949 the lettering was black and in 1950 blue. Sme grile bar. If you purchased a new grille bar after 1950 it would have blue only.

Add to your 47/48 info...The Washington State license plate was the same,both read 1947

On the 1946 passenger car grille, the Chevrolet name plate came painted with blue letters. I have and had more than one NOS in the box serivce replacement emblem and all of them had red painted letters? Same for the 40 sharktooth wheel rings red and blue?? Could this be because of different suppliers?
Any one have any clues?

My Canadian made 46 fleetline areo has the front grill name plate in red letters -- not blue.

The 1946 engineering features says blue.

46 Blue

47 Black

48 red
