I would appreciate it if some of you could help me out. The problem I have is the color to paint the 41 cabriolet. While ruby maroon has always been my first choice, I recently have begun to doubt my resolve.

Two things have had a heavy impact on my wagering. First the top rails (inside) are presently black. I don't want to have to paint them cream owing to the tan top to go with ruby maroon.
Second, the paint code calls for black (which is not a problem in the club so long as you use a 41 color).

I never liked a light color as in cameo cream but it is unique to the 431 convertible and was the color of choice for Danbury Mint. That color with the black top would solve the inside rail question.

I think a dark color shows off the car better: Ruby Maroon or Black. I just don't care for the black on black (top). Ruby maroon sort of clashes with the upholstery which is not really maroon but red. Cameo Cream shows every crack in the body panels and doesn't show off the chrome as well as a darker color. Seems that over time the black top fades rather faster than the tan. Top and paint jobs ain't cheap so I want to get it right to start with.

I'm appealing for suggestions and opinions:

Please Let me know what you think.

a. Black with Black Top.

b. Ruby Maroon with Tan Top.

c. Cameo Cream with Black Top.

Best wishes and thanks in advance,

Charlie computer

BTW: I've never seen a cameo cream one but once at Hershey. I don't know if it was the right shade or not but it didn't stand out too well. Accordingly, I don't know if I'm giving that color proper consideration.

I don't really have a preference but you should know that any dark color will require very straight body panels. A dark color will show ALL imperfections.

Thanks Tiny. Yes, I have always heard that. There is only one small area that I worry about in that regard. It's at the bottom of the left door. I may have to sacrifice the coupe. Agrin

If no preference, I'll assume, if I may, that the color code "black" would then trump the others. So, I'll just nudge one vote over to the black group.

Poll now stands at:

One black
One ruby maroon
no cameo cream

I hope some more will come in.

Thanks,
Charlie computer

How about black with tan top. Maybe it would help if you posted some new pictures. Grant

"b" is a combo that's nice...

Know what you mean about "cameo cream"...My '47's factory color is "Sport Beige"...How plain vanilla...grin

I don't blame the previous owner for "two-toning" it with "scout brown"...

Grant,
That would be unusual for sure. But, I don't think so.
Thanks for you thought, though,

Brewster,
Well that would solve my inner rail problem but from the outside I think the tan and maroon look a tad better. I think that is a vote for maroon.

Two for maroon
One for black
Two for cameo cream*

Thanks to everyone and keep the suggestions coming,
Charlie

* I was speaking with a gentleman by phone about a car dolly recently and he said that he had bought a DM of the 41 convertible. He said it was about the prettiest thing he ever saw. Then, too, I remember now that in the past Gene mentioned on being in the showroom where he worked and that he thought it was pretty sharp. So, I have added those two for the cameo cream.

Steve,
I just knew you'd come up with something like that!

Please stick with the choices offered. Just kidding.

I saw a green one at Hershey a couple years. Sharp car but just not my color

Thanks for the thought,
Charlie

Okay Okay..If you want me to be serious. Here's my choice. Cream is not attractive enough, maroon w/black top would look silly.Either paint it the CORRECT color according to the ID plate or go with this...I'd go with this.

Guess it's my computer, but I don't see any '41 paint chips that match that color...How about "Indian Suntan" ...grin

Charlie, I vote "C" as I have one (if I ever paint it). It's been in yellow primer 9 years now. I've also had one in Baby blue with blue and yellow interior (1955),Kingston Gray(1957),Ruby Maroon (1966) and a secong ruby maroon (1970) that I made into a Convertible sedan and painted Indian Suntan.
How about black/black top to contrast with the cream top rails?

I know this is not a option but... The class cars of that era were ..BLACK BODY & TAN TOP... AND TAN LEATHER UPHOLSTERY.
( Black & Tan ). To see that on a old roadster or convertible is Stunning........That's what I would do......Ed
BTW....It might also help to remind you of those Black & Tan Coon Dogs that run rampant down there were you live.

Thanks for the compliment. I am the wrench on that car. It is also the car I used in the 1941 Accessories series in the G&D.

Well, Steve, we're getting off the point a little. Nonetheless, that green machine is a pretty car. It's hard to make a 41 look bad. Just better. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Don't know where you found that photo but thanks for your diligence and for posting it.

Steve,
Wrong shade of blue. monkey

I don't know why but the 41 in blue was not all that good looking to me. The only one I can remember in the correct blue (I think) was at the Indianapolis meet back in the seventies ((again, I think). I think it was owned by Elton Hunt (not sure about spelling of first name.) It had blue interior and the body was slightly warped (at the lower front door posts) from not being properly braced when taken off the frame for restoration.

Big Richie was at that meet and may remember. I'm sure that other old timers were there also. That was a great anniversary meet. dance

At the same meet Bob Wingate had a nice, solid, original, black 41 convertible that he "auctioned" off. He had a windshield sign that allowed interesting parties to mark down what they were willing to pay. I think it went for, in the neighborhood of 3.4K. He had clear plastic over the original seats. Anyone remember that meet? Agrin

Sorry for the above "rambling." computer

Thanks for the shot of the blue one.
Charlie computer

BTW: I still need more input for the poll to be "valid." I appreciate your opinions.

BTW2: You'll note that in last post I tried to pull up a picture of a 41 cabriolet but the image wouldn't come through. Sorry. I like the picture because the color seems to be "right on." When you google 1941 Chevrolet it's (two pictures) among a bunch of 41 pictures that will come up at one of the sites. Steve, maybe you can help me get it up.

Black and black. Tough to keep clean, but the wow factor when its spit shined is worth the effort.
