OK all you 38 coupe guys, here you go. Even ole charlie would look good in his 41 convert with this. I can see Tiny going down the road with this...cool.

Good find, Steve.

Here's a link to the ebay item.

Incidentally, nice picture of Dick's '41 coupe/pick-up.

I'm still waiting for someone to tell me...If it would fit in a '41...Would it not fit in my '47 Coupe....?

It appears one would have to drive to Texas to claim this "booty"...sorry pun intended....!

I have no idea. My question is what holds it in place once you slide it in. Looking at the photo, is that something laying on top or is that the GROUND(looking at a huge hole)?

Fair enough...And what to do with those hinge holes in the body...

Yes, I believe that is "terra firma"...Some of the metal bed pieces there need straightening...

Is this thing good for anything beside the "look what I got, eat your heart out guys factor???"
I can see that it came in handy to farm folks in the old days, that needed a car and a pickup truck but could not afford both.
What do you do when you are out in your coupe showing off with this thing installed, driving around, grinning at all the folks that you think would like to have one of these, and don't have one, and it starts to rain??? Were does the rain water go??? does it go in your trunk?...If so then what?? you panic and hurry home and spend the rest of the day trying to dry out the trunk compartment of your car so the plywood shelf don't warp.....I don't get it?? No thanx...ED

I was only wrong one time in my life so far. But that time I was right, and only thought I was wrong....ED

Well, I suppose it had it's purpose in it's day...Sorta like disco dancing... ...And it must have been something important we have trouble understanding today, now that we're so far removed...It had to have been more than just a novelty...Oh, wait a second, so was disco dancing...Oh, man I give up...

Must have been some way to half-way seal or drain it...?

Just checked back...Apparently, no-one bought it...

I may be dreaming, but something in my mind says that one of the reasons to have the pickup bed was that the unit then was categorized as a truck. So????? You got more ration stamps for gas than the cars.

Kind of, Ray.... That was how the utes started in Australia, but it had to do with the savings on licensing it . Remember the war started quite a bit after these came out, so the gas rationing wasn't the initial factor.

Was just thinking of 'Hayree38'...In a post about a year ago he talked about how when he bought his '38 coupe the trunk lid been removed and a wooden box mounted to carry the previous owners gardening tools...ha ha
Makes one wonder where he got that idea...!

Haven't heard from him lately, or his bullet pocked car...lol

It is held in by a reverse lip on the box that fits down into the drip rail trough all across the top and down the sides to the box flares. The difference in what year a box will or won't fit is because of the height of the variouis year's trunk openings. The other difference in years is that just like the pickups 36, 7 & 8 don't have "Chevrolet" embossed on the tailgates. That started in '39 just like the pick ups.

In 37 and 38 the hinges don't go through the outside body on the coupes. I am not sure what they did on the years that do. Maybe a garnish molding? And Yes Kevin I believe the '42 box would fit in your '47. Most '42 accessories fit '46 7 & 8.

The '36 box was not removable, and built right into the car body.

Check the pics of this little beauty!
