How was the tag on the firewall of the 1931 pickup fastened. Mine is fastened with screws. Is this proper or were rivets used. Thank you in advance.

Since the tag was the authoritative identification for registration and ownership records, it would have been riveted. The fact your is screwed raises all sorts of questions, such as is it original for cowl.

I had an all original 1932 truck cowl that was complete, including the original pinstriping. The serial number plate was screwed onto the cowl. Over the years, I have also seen several other 1931-32 trucks and their serial number plates were screwed on as well.

Well, isn't that an interesting point. Not sure why they would do it that way, but you can't argue with a Dawg!

The cowl tag for all 1931 trucks was screwed to the firewall. Rivets used on passenger but not trucks.

Thanks JD, Chipper, and all for clearing that up. I also have the firewall tag fastened to the cowl with screws. I envisioned all kinds of problems when going for a plate. Good to know it's an authentic method.

thanks..........Cecil
