Would like to use a straighter rear bumper on my 34 Master. Does any know of a good alternative... Would a 32 Master work - it looks a bit straighter... Thanks

Not sure where I am going - but gotta get there..... Neil McCarthy

The first year for a Master was in 1933. There were no Master models in 1932.

Had Glen Rarick from NY state visit here yesterday picking up a 1/2 hood for his 35 std roadster. He was looking at my 4 extra bumpers and bought a std front one. Apparently the other 2 rears i have are 34 masters at 64" wide verses the 61" wide standards. I had no idea they were different widths. Both have the large tire bumps in them.

Not sure how wide a 1932 or 1933 bumpers ( std or master ) are, but they are straighter across. Not sure who it is that makes the chevrolet bumpers in stainless steel. Maybe the FILLING STATION has a list with widths.

The 32 and 33 uses a center face bolt mount for the front brace. You might be able to get them without holes drilled and use the 34 braces in the back or get a spring shop to make you a new pair.

The front bumper on a 1932 is 61" wide and the rear bumper on a 1932 is 64" wide.

According to THE FILLING STATION CATALOGUE

1933 1934 rear #RV14 CHROME ..MASTER HUMP IN CENTER $345.00 each

1933 1934 rear #RV14SS stainless steel MASTER HUMP IN CENTER
$385.00 EACH

1933 1934 rear #RV77 stainless MASTER "NO HUMP IN CENTER"
$385.00 EACH

apparently there are special braces # RV78 & RV78SS for these bumpers

Guess you need to get the filling station catalogue for your chevrolet needs.

Mike - you and the Dog have been a great help on this... Have a Filling Station Cat and will ck out the sizes and numbers... I need to bounce the measurements for my master against the numbers you provided and see if I can get a fit... Really appreciate your efforts... Neil

Neil, by straighter do you mean without the tire hump?

Hey Mike Lynch,
Aren't the Master bumpers much heavier than those for the Standards? I mean made of a thicker and heavier bar material.

Well i have not noticed any perceived weight change between the two. I would have to use my metal thickness gauge on the bumper bars.
Until Glen Rarick of lafargeville NY pointed it out to me the saturday he was here, that the master was about 2" longer than the standard, i had no idea .

My extra 4 bumpers were in the rafters.

If i remember tomorrow i will use my thickness gauge on them and see.

I think the difference will be obvious without the use of any measuring device.

Your right, the face bar of the master bumpers is a heavier gauge metal than the standards, it measures thicker and its visably thicker.

Another new point of difference between a master and a standard series re 1934- 1935 .

The 34 Master Bumpers are about twice as thick and twice as heavy as the 34-35 Standards.

Are you saying that a 34 master bumper is about 1/4" thick on the bumper face.......really i don't think so by the 2 examples of master bumpers i have verses the standard.

One front bumper on my car using a " U S standard gage for metal" is : one front bumper is 7 gage, another is 10 gage. the one rear is 9 gage, these are on 60 1/2" wide bumpers.

The master bumpers are 64" wide roughly and they measure 7 gage thick each
7 gage tape measures out too roughly 3/16"
9 gage tape measures out too roughly 1/8 "
hardly double the thickness.

I guess that depending on how many times they have been surface ground smooth & replated would also account for various thicknesses on the standard bumpers.
