Hi there,
Because of the extreme cost involved, I am now thinking of having a go at doing the interior of my 34 chev std 4 door sedan.

One of the most baffling parts to me is how was the shape of the rear curved corners was obtained? Its a compound curve and I imagine some type of mould was made and then covered with material?
Another is the curve of the rear wheel arch where the doors open at.
Any interior pictures would be of great assistance..

Peter,

I installed a Hampton interior kit on my '34 coupe. The corners are not a compound curve as you might think. They came flat in a box with material loosely attached. To install they are tacked to the wood frame. They were the hardest part of the install to get the material pulled and tacked tightly without wrinkles.

Hi Peter,

Here's some photos or the inside rear of two coupes (one restored and one original)& two sedans. The gray sedan is in NZ so possibly a Holden. Hope these help.

hi there Pat,
thanks for the pictures.

mine, a standard , does not have a rear parcel shelve, but I get the general idea of how it goes.
They look totally wonderful, but I am not sure if I could ever get mine looking so neat and trim.

what looks like a simple job, may well turn into an nightmare and a total cock up...?

anyway I'm going to do test pieces to see what the end results are before committing to the real and expensive stuff for the interior!

thanks again for the pix, great stuff mate..

Hi there All,
this is for the Australian guys in here.
I have been searching the web trying to find an Australian supplier of motor trimming supplies.
to date I have not had any success!
Does anyone know of a good comprehensive supply site site that will sell the the general public.
My local trimmer seems rather reluctant to give me any information or assistance..... stressed

Much appreciated Jack.

A very handy link

Cheers

Some say "Street is neat". I prefer "1928 is great"

I have documented my 45 years with a 1928 Chev Tourer, from 1973 to 2018, and regulary add other items that I hope are of interest to others. Your comments are most welcome. The story of the Red Chev can be viewed at http://my28chev.blogspot.com/

hi young falcon,
concerning the curved corners:-
you say the material was loosely attached, was it attached to some pliable board or cardboard?
and was it sewn at the edges to the cardboard or other and had long loose sides for tacking to the timber?
I'm just trying to visualise what was used...
front seat covering:-
was the rear of the front seat covered with a padded material, and was carpet used at the lower extremities?
any pictures would be of great help too..

Peter,

As near as my wife (who helped with the install) and I can recall, the material was glued to just one edge of the poster board like backing. I think it was the top edge.

We first tacked the piece at the top starting at one end and bending them as we tacked. We then moved to the bottom and did the same. It took some effort to get all the wrinkles out of the material but eventually we did. The material was folded around the two vertical sides and tacked. We did not use any further adhesive as the material stretched tightly when tacked and did not seem to require it.

I hope this makes sense and is helpful. I will try to email you some pictures of my interior to give you a better idea of what it looks like. It is a 3 window coupe so there is only a vinyl shelf behind the seat. The back of the seat is not finished except it is covered with black "poster board" and open to the trunk area.

Hi there Jerry,
thanks for the pictures, your interior looks most professional, the curved corners look so smooth. Maybe you should take up auto upholstery in the long winter months? wink

Peter,

I think, if any credit is due, it should go mostly to my wife. She is much more patient than I and kept us going at a pace that allowed us to do the best job we were capable of. Except for the usual "could you hold this" help the interior was the only thing she was heavily involved in.

You know you have a good marriage when the two of you complete the interior, together, of a three window coupe with no arguments.
