Where do I find/buy wood for my steering wheel? Mine was eaten years ago.

Mike do you have any '29-'30 rims with the grooves in the top surface? I am looking for a '30 that I am putting together out of pieces.

Chipper,
If I understand your description correctly, the answer is no, I can't help you. I am not familiar with that wheel.

Hi
1) what years/models of steering wheel are interchangable with a 1928 coupe?

2) I have good steering wheel "metal", but 95% of the wood is gone, what are my low-cost options? The steering wheel does NOT have to be original, I'm just trying to make a "driver" out of what I have.

Thanks

Mike

The 28 wheel is 17" which makes it unique.

Down here in Aus. we had 2 different steering wheels for 1928, the early ones were the same as 27 and the late ones were a slightly larger diameter. As our chassis/running gear was fully imported I's say the US 28's are probably the same.
There's a bloke down here reproduses wood rims for all models, approx. $230 from memory. Any one wants one send me pm

Gidday Fellas,

I can vouch for them Chris, I have one of those you mention as you put me onto him last year... What an excellent product, the timber, the workmanship, the finger grooves in the wheel all first class and to 28 specs and for the price it is a bargain at $230.00 in my mind, I would pay double and by still happy to be honest as every one who looks at my old chevy always comments on the timber steering wheel..

Cheers Grant.

I have to agree with Chris, I have different steering wheel diameters, well, different steering wheels on the 28s. The smaller diameter is 16 3/4 in, with a similar/same steel spider as the 27, then there are 17 inch diameter wheels, with a different profile steering spider.

My favorite is the 1926 steering wheel, 16 inch in diameter, with a v. nice piece of walnut, in a thicker rim profile. But finding a proper 26 wheel isn't exactly easy.

Otherwise, I would take the 27 version, even a 1/4 inch off the outside diameter seems to matter.

Grant, maybe you could post a photo of your steering wheel rim, would this gentleman have a website?

Thanks,

Jay
