I have a friend that needs to refit the crown wheel to his 28, as it has loose rivots, much like my 28 back in 2007 when I discovered the rivots were well on the way to shearing off. What a mess that would have made??
Luckily I had a complete crown wheel and carrier to swap over.
Anyway, what would the wiser heads than mine suggest, traditional rivots or bolts, and if bolts, what size , and should they be high tensile?

Gidday fellas, Sorry ray I just can't answer that, to many bloody questions on the one post, I'm a little confused. BTW what are Rivots?  and thats coming from the worlds worst speller.

Hi Ray I had my diff redone 12 years ago, and they used high tensile bolts has done over 50,000km and no a murmer, I would say the rivets would be softer than the bolts as they have to be to be peined over and this is why they wear and shear off after only 50years! Looking to find the guy who did it so I can get another done, but no one knows where he moved to, typical find a good tradie and they leave every 10 years go figure? RAY

I used Huck-bolts to do the job on my '25 but grade 8 bolts or cap screws would work, if there is room.

I used high tensiel bolts on the ring gear on my FB50 two years ago and all is well so far. The machinest who made the ring gear and penion for me sent bolts with the set. Good Luck, Hutch
