Hello
Wondering if anyone has a source for a rebuild kit for a 37 Master Deluxe (knee action) steering gear including worm, roller and pitman shaft?
Thanks
Ray

Well I guess I was asleep at the wheel again when I posted my ? re 37 MD steering gear rebuild kits etc. Also would like to know if the proper way, or maybe the only way to drain the gear oil out of the steering gear is to split the housing and make a big mess on the frame etc.?
Thanks in advance
Ray

Ray,
I haven't checked my shop manual for a 37 master deluxe, but I'm pretty sure that to rebuild the steering gear, you need to remove it from the car. I need to rebuild the one in my 37 master and haven't done it yet because it looks like a pretty big job to get it out of the car. I guess I am waiting to retire so I have plenty of time. Hope I can still do it when I am 70! lol dance

You might be able to do it in the car...But I don't think I'd recommend it...Bigger Hose...?

Hello Ray,

I checked thru the filling station and chevs of the 40s catalogs and they show bits and pieces. I have an old obsolete chevy parts co. catalog (2007) that lists a '37 chevrolet knee action steering box assembly for $289.00. Add in rebuilding your assembly w/3-4 wk turn around and a warranty for an additional $65.00. But this is based on a 2007 catalog.

I'm going to see if they list a current catalog online and look up the price because I also own a '37 MD.

good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

I would not attempt doing a rebuild with the box in the car. If you are only changing the lubricant it may well be done in chassis but removing the gearing is another story.
