Hi guys,I have a 1929 generator and I'm trying to line up the pulleys. Does the pulley thread on or is it pressed on? It has threads on the out side of the pulley and I need to move it forward my fan blade hits the 3/8" of threads that stick out. I have it apart soaking, and I plan to put washers behind it when I get it apart. Is this right? Stagetech

You may want to supply the generator number to be sure it's the correct one. I don't have experience with the 29 but most generator pulleys are keyed and held on by a nut on the end of the shaft. Almost sounds like the pulley is on reversed. If one side of the pulley is recessed and the other has a hub then the recessed part should face away from the generator.

For the 1929-32 194 engine, the generator pulley used in 1929 was for 1929 only. As mentioned above, the pulley slides onto the armature shaft via a key way and it is held in place with a large hex nut and a lockwasher. Sounds like you have the wrong pulley, and maybe the wrong generator as well. The Delco-Remy generator used in 1929 was a Model 943-J.

Yep, you definitely have the wrong generator. And, your generator is for use with a voltage regulator. The 943-J generator for 1929 had a cut-out relay, not a voltage regulator. By the way, the generator that you have is for a 1938 and a 1939 Chevrolet.
