Hello
After removing the housing clamp bolt on the steering gear will the column and worm simply pull out of the housing or are there more steps involved? I have already removed the wheel and the jacket.
Thanks
Ray

Looks like I put the cart before the horse again! After reading more in my shop manual the adjustment for removing worm shaft end play says to turn the shaft jacket to the right until all end play is removed. I guess this means that the shaft with the worm attached is threaded into the housing. Am I correct??

THere is a large treaded nut with a sleeve for the mast jacket at the top of the steering box which holds in the steering shaft and worm gear. It is neccessary to first seperate the 2 halves of the steering box and that will dissengage the pitman shaft and gear from the worm gear. The upper nut on the steering shaft can then be unwound allowing the steering shaft and worm to be removed.

YOu will also be able to obtain a speedier reply to your questions if you include the year model and series of your car.
