So I have 4 dip sticks and two of them had this washer thing below the steal adjustment washer. I thought that they might be made out of brass so I tried to buff it clean but it was eaten away. My wife thinks it might be leather. I think it is used as a gasket to prevent oil from popping out. So my question is, what is it? What is it made of? Thanks Steven

The ones I've seen were felt, about 3/16" thick.
Hope that helps.

My 1931 pickup also has a felt gasket on the dipstick. Lee

Ok, this is what I did. I went down to the hardware store and got ¾” Heavy duty felt pads. The ones that have the peel off back with adhesive. You put them on the bottom of things like feet to keep from scratching the floor. I then drilled a 9/32” hole through the center. The felt had a lot of hair so I used a soldering iron to clean it up. I then removed the back and stuck it to the metal adjustment washer. Worked and looked great. Thanks and give it a try Steven

You can get parts like that from an old piano, including slotted wood screws that are getting hard to find.
If you have old Chevrolets, other old Chevrolets will find out where you live.
