Doing a complete rear axle rebuild on a 1934 Master. Everything is pretty straight forward but I can't figure out how to pull the inner race off the axles for the axle bearings.

I tried heating them but they will not move. I can't find anything in the manual. What is the trick to get these off?

Usually you can hook the inner end of the axle shaft behind the bearing race and pull it out (with the lock ring grove at the end of the axle)

Can you translate? I don't understand.

Keep in mind that I still have the brake drum on the axle and was not planing on removing the drum from the axle.

The inner race sits tight up against the area where the oil seal rides. There is not place to "hook" the inner race.

The drum can still be on the axle, no problem. Note the grove on the inner end of the axle. It is what the C lock slips into. Stick the end into the race (axle opening) and cock axle side ways and pry out race.

I think we are talking about two different things. I am talking about the inner race (sleeve) pressed onto the axle shaft (5.420).

Still have not figured out how to get off.

Hi Jeff

The 33 has the same set up. I have not changed mine (yet) but I looked at it when I had the axles out. I figured I would have to weld something to the race like a ring to give it a "tooth" and use a slide hammer as the race is heated to get them off. doesn't look easy. keep us informed on how you do it

This is how I go them off.

Tried heating torch. No movement.

Cut a double helix groove in the side of the sleeve. With chisels broke through any remaining material the best we could. With two pry bars (One from each side)we were then able to slide the sleeve off.

Heated new sleeves in oil to slide back on. One went right on and the other we had to press on using a small hydraulic press.

Time: 1 Hour.
