Before I road tested my vehicle I had it tuned, adj.tappets, new points, new plugs.
When I decelerate,ie. lift my foot off the gas the engine backfires several times.
It does not happen all the time, but frequently.
Any ideas?
Regards,
John.

Hi Al,
No I think he thought it was a bit tricky with the electrolock.
I do have one, is there anything tricky about replacing it .

Hi John,

The idle mixture may be too lean. Try enriching the idle mixture by turning the idle screw in a bit.

If it backfires thru the exhaust system you may have a leak at the connection of the exh. pipe to the manifold. When you decellarate it will draw in a little air (oxygen) and combined with the unburned fuel give you the backfire.

iagree

This is a very common cause of backfire. If there is a manifold leak or exhaust pipe leak close to the valves it will back fire and quite impressively at that!!! bana2

Thanks guys,
I have changed the condenser.
I soaped up the doughnut at the exhaust/manifold connection and noticed there was a small leak, hope this is source of the prob, will test drive in a couple of days.
Thanks,

John
