I must admit, I was not expecting a flood of 26 engine blocks, but no response tells me that I should attempt to fix the cracks in my current block at all costs. My current block has some cracks from being stored by a prior owner without anti-free. I have looked into cast iron stiching, and although scary, it might be the best option. The cracks don't leak, rather, they weep. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

what is the difference between 26 and the other 171 blocks? are there any?? were you interested in the "1926" date stamp on the block for presevation/authenticity" reasons?? I don't have a block but was wondering if requesting a "171" block may provide better results

Hi 35Mike, Look on the drivers side of the block and under the engine serial number you will find two numbers. One is a casting number and the other is the casting date. Months are A=Jan, B+Feb, ect and then a day of the month and the last digit is the year. If you like you could post those numbers here and we will decipher them for you.

Dave Gidday Dave, The no reply issue is becoming rather a very disappointing aspect of this site, good or bad, a reply would be nice to point you, me or someone else in the right direction but no reply is bloody annoying considering the amount of views that a post can generate... I don't expect wind to be blown up my [bleeped] everytime I post up some photos of my progress with my old chev but considering the amount of talent and experience on this site from people that have rebuilt and restored these cars in the past over many years it is a little frustrating that no one chips in except the same few. Why I put up my posts is because in years to come, some other young fella might stumble on an old chev and try to restore it and if he jumps on this site and has a look about he will get to see and read what I have done and how I went about it which will hopefully give him a good idea of what is involved and also I feel it is good for this site in general as there does not seem to be to many others doing the same... In saying that I can see or rather hear your frustration also which is not good for the site in general. To be honest I put my membership in the rubbish bin this year when I got it a few weeks ago, I like this site (forum) but the book I can live without and I feel it is a waste of resourses to send it from the USA when all it lists is committee members and up coming events, but I dis enjoy the feature car write-up's to tell you the truth :) Enjoy ya day

The vendor has been advised that the 6-cylinder head is NOT for a 1926.

If you look at the ebay link posted by jack39roadster it shows a 26 block and lots of other early Chevrolet parts and also has an engine number to id the block, I'm not sure where the red motor head fits in.

The holden six cylinder head is at the LH top corner of the parts pile.

I haven't forgotton. It turns out I need to remove part of the crate to get to the numbers. I'll try to do that tomorrow.

Just a word of warning. The e-Bay Australia block is a what I would call a Superior V block with a camshaft driven internal oil pump. It is possible for a '26 to have a Superior K engine with an oil pump and distributor on the back of the generator. Make sure you get the right version.

Monte, I am 22 years old and just bought a 1926 chevrolet and wouldn't ya guess, am having overheating problems. I just joined this site about 10 minutes ago to learn more about it and after reading your post about people not responding a lot of times i am a little nervous. I hope I get some input on what my problem is with my car.

Welcome from another Minnesotan. You'll enjoy this site and learn lot about your old car. I have a '31 5 window coupe and the help was unbelievable. Might take awhile but the answers will come. Mine heated even after I got the radiator cleaned so I went with a new core, not original, and now it runs cool. Had the head boiled out and cleaned out block also. Could be something else too. Have fun and keep asking questions. We all learn form them.
Once you learn how, post some pictures of it.

Don't feel bad. That's why I have grandkids.  Wouldn't mind a girlfriend too but want to make it to my 50th anniversary this June so will pass on that.  Hey, that's my '31 that just came up in Random Photos on the right. Gotto go.

Hi Leroy,
Welcome from an Iowan. I don't know what your problem is but, like Jerry, my 33 overheated even after having the radiator cleaned. I found a "new" old replacement stock radiator and have had no problems since. Unless they take off the top and bottom tank and rod it out they don't always get them clean enough. You could do a flow test and see if it is flowing enough water through the core.

The radiator shop said they did a flow test and it worked great. He said he had to clean it twice. Its the original honey comb. I just started a thread so well post pics on there. THANKS EVERYONE!

I just now recorded the serial number and block number on the engine I have. If I can I will post pictures.
