Hello all,I am going to replace the trunk mat in my 53 210 and I am curious to know if there was jute or some type of padding under the mat when the car was new. Thanks for all your help!

No pading - just a rubber mat.

Thanks for the quick reply,I guess I will throw out the padding that the previous owner had left there.

i took a mat out of an original 50 a long time ago and found where the ribs of the trunk were recessed there was some sort of tar paper like filler to make the the stamped piece seem smooth so when you put the mat in the rubber wouldnt take the shape of the stamped edges dont know if supposed to be there but it would make sense just my 2-cents worth andy

Mine has the paper also, looks like felt paper you would use as an underlayment on a roof.
