Hi I remember reading an article in an old G&D about a genuine accessory called spare air on 40s model Chevrolets and was wondering if anyone had information or literature about it. Regards Michael.

I think you're referring to a accessory that allowed you to check and air up the spare from outside the trunk. It was merely a line from the spare valve to the outside area of the body next to the left taillight with a orifice for a tester or inflator. They had them for the 40 and 41 but I don't know about other years. They were mentioned in the 40 and 41 accessory catalog.
I hope this is of some help.

That's what I suspected he might be referring too...I've seen parts for it on ebay, available on occasion...Have also seen them touted as an accessory at least through '48...

Wow ! Looks as though you've got "air to spare"...heh heh...

Now I'm wondering where to put the inlet hole if there's also a back-up light in the way...?

on the back side of the box has the install directions and there is no specific spot to place the Spair Air, from what i recall it says to drill near the tail light. It's been awhile since I last read it.

Well, that clears that up...!

Your '49 is just too cool....Love that "uptown" hanger...!

Bet the air access makes for a good "conversation piece", to those not in the know...

Hi and thanks for posting those pictures, it is exactly what I was asking about. I have a 1951 Holden bodied Coupe Utility and the spare tyre is located behind a small tail gate under the floor and with a tow bar fitted I can't check the spare without removing the tow bar. I have fitted what is sold here as spare air made by a local company called KC and it is very convenient for checking the spare tyre but it is nice to know what the original accessory type looks like. Regards Michael.

Great looking car, Johnny! I hope to see it in person some day. Hopefully, you'll make the 2016 Anniversary Meet in Medford, OR. Probably the only time I'll be that far West.
