Hi all! I introduced my self in the intro topic with questions about my 1946 shift linkage.... I wanted to post some photos. From what I've seen on here, mine is pretty rough, but fun non the less...

Most of what you see on here, was once "pretty rough", or worse!!

but fun non the less...

Now that's the important part.

Enjoy the ride.

Thanks for sharing the pics of your '46. You have a nice solid Chevy it looks like from the pics. I always liked the grille & trim of the '46. Especially the hood emblem with little stars on there. Makes it fit the 'post-war victory' theme along with great names like Fleetmaster. What's its history & what are your plans with it?

Thanks guys! I been on ebay "watching" a couple sets of hubcaps. As for plans, it was rip the guts out and put in a Benz diesel, but it runs well enough that I'll keep the 216. It needs rocker panels under all 4 doors and has a couple small holes in the trunk. I'd like to fix the rust and drive it, but knowing me the body will be off by summer.....My brain will nag the h*** out of me if I don't have it all apart and find everything that might be wrong.....

I know your excited about your new found forty-six , but it'll pass...You might want to consider having some fun and just drive this "chick magnet" this summer...lol Have fun ! Drive !

Think about a "game plan" for this restoration , it took me about a year ( and about $3,000 ) scouring ebay almost daily to find all I needed , well , wanted , it turns out...Welcome to a new addiction...

When I say "game plan" for a restoration , I mean someplace to leave this thing for the next few years...minimum...

Follow my advise...your parents garage is not the perfect place...lol

LOL funny Kevin! I have my own garage ha ha ha. I do all my own work, I'm currently re-rebuilding my 52 International.... HA HA HA rebuilt it all original....didn't the the "usability" to coin my own word. So tore her back to the frame, chevy front clip and rear, 6.2 diesel and 400 turbo auto. HA! This is all in the course of owning the truck since June 2011. Mind you, I've not painted it yet, but.... I get mildly "obsessed" HA HA HA. :-) I do need to be more patient with this one though..If I finish it too soon you know what that means? I will be surfing the web for the next project!

As far as 52 Internationals go , that's Great ! My Buddy had one years ago and I can't remember ever seeing another since...Must be a rare find...

But now as far as your '46 goes , I think you might this a little more time consuming . I just can't figure how your going to work on it with one hand and keep the "chicks" at bay with the other...Maybe you should work on restoring the back seat area first...If you know what I mean...!

Good Luck ! Kevin

Go to www.chevsofthe40s.com - they list what you need.

Can't find my Filling Station catalogue right now, but if you go to www.fillingstation.com, you will be able to pull them up also.

Jim.

So after driving around town a couple days....what is the top speed on this car....she sounds wound tight at about 45-50...is that about right? The steering is pretty wobbly too....i can feel the wheels move without the steering wheel, might try tightening up the worm gear a bit....dont wanna bind it up though. Whats everyone's thoughts on electric wipers?

If the engine is in good shape and the rest of the car is safe to drive at speed 60 MPH is fine. For years I drove my 1939 60 to 65 MPH and never had a problem. This included many trips of over 1000 miles and on the Interstates. Would think nothing of running her up to 70 and 75 for short spurts. I drove my '34 at 55 and 60 for long periods of time and that engine is lacking many of the more modern features of a 216.

The biggest problem is the oiling system for the connecting rods on a 1935 and up engine. It is common to find one of the oil trough pipes plugged wit goop. The engine will do fine at lower speeds but a rod will burn out at high speeds. That is why the pan should be dropped and the oil pump screen cleaned and the connecting rod trough oil pipe be pressure check with water pressure to be sure they are all clean and oiling.

The vacuum wipers are unhooked, presumably because they werent working. Electric are just more reliable!

You can move the little bar in the "gauge" to regulate the speed of the clock for accuracy. Move it toward the "F" to make the clock run faster, move it toward the "S" to make the clock run slower. Many wind up clocks of the day had that feature.

You mentioned you were looking for hubcaps. You should look at your rear wheels to see of they will take the early style hubcap. The use clips to hold them on. Your hubcaps on the rear look like mid to late 70's chevy pickup. They are held on with raised pads on the wheel, which are different from the early chevrolet wheel.
