What kind of seal does the rear main have on a 1936 Chevy motor? Also what about the front crank seal? The overhaul gasket sets that I have found does'nt include these seals. Whats up with that? Any info on this is greatly appreciated., thanks...oldred

The rear main has an oil slinger cast/machined on the crankshaft and fits into a groove in the block and rear main cap. Any oil that squirts past the main bearing is deflected by the slinger and is drained baack into the oil pan. The front crank has a cork seal driven into the timing gear front cover into a recess. There is a built in baffle to deflect the oil just behind the seal. The seal rides on the hormonic balancer. It is critical the front cover is put on the engine and centered on the crankshaft, also grease the seal before installing the balancer. There are good pictures in the shop manual and reprints are available.
34 & 35 trucks are the greatest. 36 high cabs are OK too.

35 pickup man, that explains why the gasket kits don't list the rear main seal. thanks. Also I have been told that at one time there were adapters for converting closed driveshafts to open driveshafts, do you have any knowledge of this? Thanks again...oldred

There may have been or is, but I am not aware of them. I keep them stock, no benefit to me to care.
