Hi,
We are trying to set the points for our 33, does anyone know the gap? We have a 31 and the service books for that one but this engine seem a little different so, was hoping to find someone here who might know.
Thanks!

I would think it would be the same as 35-36. .022" Tune up Specs.

Normal business card thickness or ~ 0.18" for points. Spark plugs are wider than a credit card 0.025+. Or for best results put credit card and business card together for ~ 0.040" on the plugs.

I like it, that's a good one to remember when you out and about. I never carry a feeler gauge in my pocket but I do have the others

great tip and the car run better too at .018, THANKS !!! Hi If you noticed the difference from .022" to .018" you should try .015". It would give your coil a little more charge time. Dwell angle for .022" is 31-37 degrees and .015" is 38-45 degrees. Could make another improvement on performance

Not to forget...as you change that point gap , your also changing the timing ( firing ) of the motor ( degrees before top dead center )...

Just remember that a new rubbing block will wear relatively fast until it is smoothed and that will reduce the gap. So setting a new set may become a few thousandths less in short order.

I remember when the standard point setting was a match book cover. And who caries matches any more? Don

Since we don't carry match books any more, it was necessary to select another gauge. Most everyone has a business and credit card or ID card on their person so they make good substitutes.
Still try to carry a dime as they make good screwdriver if you can find a slotted screw to tighten. If you need more leverage then put the dime between two quarters and turn it.
That got me thinking that maybe someone can collect all the "pocket tools and gauges" and put together a list that can be posted or better yet a short article for the G&D. No not me as I have already contributed my share of G&D articles. Anyone willing to step forward?

A wire on parts tag is about.017 and also makes a good gauge. Also if the point setting is uncertain a good rule of thumb to follow is to set them at 1/2 of plug setting. May not be race ready accurate but can get you out of a jam.
