Hi guys,
How could one identify the differences between two models of Chevy 4 trucks? I think an M is early '25 and an R is late '25.
A few things I can tell you about the truck that has raised the question, it has a gear driven generator, Guide headlights with tie bar, 23" front wheels and 20" rears.

ALBrass the R series has 124" wheel base & series M has 120" wheel base.

As Ken Kaufammn says: The first One-truck Series M chassis were built in February [1925].... The Series M was mostly the Series H with the improved 1925 engine/clutch/transmission: 120 inch wheel-base, H front springs and rear axle, with the new Series K radiator, hood and front fenders, plus the new disc clutch, and the Truck version of the Series K motor. Serials: 1M-1001 to 1M-1812 2M-1001 to 2M-4188 3M-1001 to 3M-2496 6M-1001 to 6M-1371 9M-1001 to 9M-1719 12M-1001 to 12M-2185 21M-1001 to 21M-1721 2M-7000 AND UP [TARRYTOWN CKD] There was also the Hendon, London-assembled Model S (for 'Superior') Utility Express that used M components and went into production from Tarrytown kits in May 1925. The U.E. Series R was launched as of August 1st 1925 and had the new 'light bar' across the front as per the '1926' or 'Late K' Superior Series K.

Thanks guys,
We think it must be an R so I am trying to get a serial number. When I get that, I'll post it here (in a day or two). This truck is being restored by the grandson of the original owner and has never been out of the family. It was first registered in January '26.

Series M has quarter elliptic front springs. Series R, ??

"M" series trucks also have the differential housing that bolts together(left & right halves),and the torque tube then bolts to the 2 assembled axle housings. "R" series trucks have semi elliptic springs on the front.

The X would have a belt driven generator the same as the V series.

....in the UK the late Rs were being sold well into 1926, even as the X chassis were being assembled.

I've finally got the numbers of the truck. The chassis number is 2R3529 and the engine number (gear driven generator) is R200953. Anyone got any more information? I was told once that an engine number starting with R designated a "replacement". Fact or fiction?

It's a Tarrytown, New York, assembled chassis with an Autumn 1925 Flint-built right-hand drive CAR engine, and not a Truck engien (prefix 'RT'). This happened as we know...for export they probably used what engines they had to hand. The demand for rhd engines being what they were, they no doubt were not fussy on the line!
