Hi Guys
Im about ready to have my interior done.
I'm giong to wait until its in before I install fenders and running boards.
I dont think I want to do it myself,I would rather have someone else do this part of my project.
Im aware of Hampton and the kits they sell , but I think a local guy at a local shop is what I may do. Any comments or tips or potential problems I might encounter. I want early 30s looking fabric and detail. Not modern.
Thanks
Stanman

I had a local guy do my 37 in 1980, all sewn just like original upohlstery was. I did use a modern type fabric, sort of a velour, it looks kind of like mohair but softer. I wasn't concerned about judging. The upohlstery job looks original and still looks almost new. I was very happy with the job. If I had used mohair I think it would pass a judging inspection. It cost a fraction of what they want from Hampton.

Mine isn't original but close and a local guy did it for $2,600 plus I gave him a $100 tip for the good job he did. That included material and labor. Being mine's a driver and fun car I didn't mind if something wasn't just right. This was 4 years ago.

I'm sure most places would be a lot higher. I'm going to see if he'll do my '49 and if not there is an Amish guy I know who might do everything but the headliner. That I would order and he would install. I'm sure he would do it just as reasonable.

I think I'm a fairly wise person because I'm smart enough to realise I'm not too bright.

When I did our second frame up restoraation of our 31 the upholstery shop man suggested I get a Hampton kit. He said it would save time and money. I am very pleased with the results.

Ha Ha, Back in 1980 I think he charged me $450. I bought a headliner kit and put it in myself. I took all the upohlstery and seats out and took them to him and them I put it all back in the car. He did a beautiful job and everything fit right in. It took him about a week. Inflation has sure changed things. $$ aren't worth much anymore.

Is there a interior dome light and a door side pocket on a 31 coupe ?
I don't have either one. Or is there an ash tray ?

Stan, I had my upholstry guy come out to my house and measure up the fabric that I needed for my 31 coupe, then I just ordered the fabric from Hampton. When it came in he installed it from my old pictures as far as stiching goes. I have a sport coupe with a dome light and an ashtray on the passenger side door. I could email you some of my pictures if you would like. Is your car a sport coupe or a standard? The door stiching is different in the two and also the buttons on the front edge of the seat. I just heard a lot of unhappy people from the chat site that bought Hampton kits and how little support that they got from them. That is why I went the way I did. Good luck with your project.

That's how I think I would like to handle this.
I'm already looking at fabrics from different sources, and when I get some samples and pictures together, I'll try and find a good local guy to do the work.
A few interior pictures of your 31 would very much appreciated.
It's easier to send them to my home e-mail acct. My car is a sport coupe..duel side mounts means a sport coupe, right?
