HELP!!!!
I am restoring a 1931 Special Sedan, Built April 1st 1931 in Buffalo. The carburetor thats on it is a Carter BB1 # 554 with a round accelorator with a flat shaft. This combonation does not show up under any parts reference until 32's then there called w-1 and none list a #554
Has any one run into this before?
I want to get a rebuild kit but don't know what one to get.

The BB1 updraft is the wrong carburetor for your vehicle. The BB1 carburetor was used years later on trucks like the COE. The correct carburetor for your 1931 Chevrolet is a Carter 150-S updraft. 1931 was the last year for the updraft and 1932 was the first year for the Carter W1 downdraft carburetor and the W1 was used until 1949.

The kits for the correct Carter 150-S are readily available, and so are new reproduction parts as well.

The '32's had a downdraft Carter W-1 carburetor while '31 and earlier were updraft Carter RJH08. Sounds like perhaps your '31 car has been modified to '32 carburetion by changing manifold etc.

Gunsmoke: He mentioned that he has a Carter BB1 on his 1931 and the BB1 is an updraft carburetor and an updraft was not used on a 1932.

The correct carburetor for the 1932 passenger cars was a Carter W1, Model 212-S or a Model 235-S.
