Hi
Has anyone used the new thick paper type gasket in place of the cork gasket for the push-rod cover? I bought a gasket cover set made by "Best" and the push-rod cover gasket is made of a very think paper type product or something like that. I was surprised it was not cork. I only want to put this cover on once with no leaks so let me know if you have had any luck with them.
I should ad that the gaskets around each spark plug are cork

It will be less forging than soft cork so the cover must be perfectly straight. I would put a thin coat of silicone sealant on both sides....no thicker that a coat of enamel.

Thanks Gene, the cover is in very good condition, Thanks for your advice. I keep leaning toward the cork (but don't have) but if this will work OK then I may give it a try.

The overhaul gasket sets supplied by The Filling Station are made by Best Gasket and have the pushrod cover gaskets of the type you describe. I've done four 216 motors in the past two years using these gaskets, and find them to be satisfactory. I recommend gluing both sides with silicone (very thin coats) when installing.

I have noticed very slight weepage at different points along the bottom edge, easily kept clean with an occaisional wipe down. This weeping is probably a function of the straightness of the pushrod cover and the relatively wide hold-down bolt spacing rather than the gasket material.
