I have a 1976 Nova subframe on my 38 Chevy and it has a power steering box with some play in it. I read in the service guide an number of steps required to gauge how much torgue can be used to apply to adjustment. Just wondering if all these steps are necessary to adjust out some of the play or can you just give it a little tweak and see what happens??
Thanks for your thoughts on this

Use the shop manual and do the adjustments in the proper order.

Do not just turn down the pitman shaft adjusting as some idiots do.
