I am betting he was in the 13000 to 15000 range, that first one never met reserve and he was at 12750. This guy just lowered his reserve but won't reveal it, so will watch this one thru and base my price range for condition according to this one if it sells. Gerry

Let's see...$15k for the car, another $10k to $30k or more for body, engine, interior, mechanical, paint, chrome, accessories, parts, etc., and you may have several times more invested than the car may be worth.
Don't get me wrong, this car is sweet and would make a super restoration. It's just that more often that not someone is going to be upside-down on this financially, unless that certain someone does virtually all the work themselves.

Why restore it? Fix it up mechanically and DRIVE it. I bet you'd get twice the attention at a car show with it as is rather than an over restored example.

You may be right...but once you start to fix one thing it inevitably leads to another, and another, and so on. That's how my "little clutch job" became a long-term restoration.

Coach, I hear you, what started out 6 years ago as a rebuild and paint of my 51 turned into a full blown frame off.
It's just that I've noticed in the last few years, the "original" cars seem to be garnering a lot of the attention, and rightly so. I was at a meet a couple of years ago that had a very large contingent of those somewhat popular Model A's. After several rows of pristine, restored cars, they kinda all started looking the same. The old, original, somewhat "ratty" cars had a crowd around them all day.

Did you guys see the Rides with Jay Leno getting that old heap Bentley out of the old lady's garage, his buddy rebuilding the engine, washing it up and putting tires on it and away he went. Holes in the body and everything-it was amazing!
It can be done!
Better than some hot rodder with no sense chopping it all up!

A Bently or a Duesenberg? On "Rides" a few weeks ago there was a Duesenberg that Jay Leno retrieved from an old garage. Is that the same one you are talking about?

Sorry-I was going to leave it just "old heap" and went for the gold. That will teach me-when in doubt leave it out!
Opps. togo

I agree with Brjr51...I'd be sort of inclined just to put some top material on that one, fix up the mechanicals and RIDE. People do love the unrestored cars. I'm a sucker for 'em myself. Unfortunately, my old truck has deteriorated to the point where I'm going to have to do a full body-off just to get it back on the road...

Cartunman and Jtray28,
That is kinda what happened to me. I didn't start out to RESTORE anything. I just wanted to FIX UP an old Chevy and drive it around and then I seen what some of the other Chevy club folks were 'a doin' and then my uncle in Missouri talked me into joining VCCA and it got crazy after that......I started reading Hemmings going everywhere looking for old cars and to swap meets, and spending money like some kind of a fool!
Oh Well....

Well so far I have not found a 1933 5 window in the condition of the last two on e-bay for less than 12000 and still not sure of the first one because it did not meet reserve at 12750 and the current sits at 9100 with 2 days left, so if anybody out there can beat those two in price and the icing on the cake would be currently titled and licensed in CA let me know. Its all about demand at the time of sale.

33,
I agree. There are too many folks who think what they have is the holy grail of what ever. The antique thing is kind of out of hand. I would think it would be more important to get something you were planning on fixing up into the hands of someone that would full fill what you can't do-like what the guy says in the discription on the car listed. But everybody has to make their cut I guess. I know I'll never get out of my old truck what I have in it-that's why I'm being buried in it-kidding! There's too many Boyds and Jessies with deep pockets that will cut the thing up-hope not.

Hey Cartunman
If ya buried yourself in your truck you would save the cost of a casket and therefore your truck has more value with no cost to you. My thought on that car would be drive and build as I go, if I loose interest sell and move on,it is only a hobby to keep me active in retirement. Don't need to make big profit or even break even if I am getting satisfaction from it.

Well put 33. It's too bad more folks don't have your view.
When I die, I want my parts recycled. I told my son I don't want anymore left of me than would fit in a Dixie cup-so the old truck would be a bit overkill for my final resting vessel.
Keep on truckin'. ok

Well after they lowered the reserve it went for 11100.00, so similar vehicles will more than likely be in this neighborhood unless we get that one in grandmas barn.

So I take it you are going to be burn't, so have them put ya in the ashtray of the 30 chev 1 1/2 ton truck, could be one sticking point tho your relatives might not see the humor in that, judging by reading your posts tho I don't see you going anywhere for awhile you seem to be a relaxed type of person. ANYWAYS happy truckin in that 1 1/2 ton chevy.

Gerry,
I'm only buring what's left.
I believe in recycling and why not the parts from this old hot rod (my old carcus) when I'm done with it.
I'd have them put me in the ash tray but there isn't one. So we'll go with the Dixie Cup and dump it in Lake Superior.
Have a great day-no matter what. newangel
