Been pondering how a 216 was performance enhanced "old school" style back in the 40s or 50s. Usually involved split manifolds. Here is one from GM. Has anyone seen one before or know it's original application?

You mean like this?

With the URL you want to link too copied to your clipboard, click the second button from the left in your text window. It's the one with a globe and link of chain. A small window will open. Right click in that window and paste the URL you have copied into it. Click OK. Another small window will open asking you to name the link. Give it a name and click OK. I named mine "You mean like this?". When you do that the UBB code to create a hypelink will appear in your text box. Click Preview Post to make sure the link is working. When everything is kosher click Submit.

Thanks for the education on urls. My question still stands, what is the application for that manifold?

The application would be 1950 1962 235 engine. The intake is for a 235 engine as is the exhaust. The exhaust man. would work on a 1937 but wouls not fit the 216 intake manifold. The "pair " would fit a 1937 engine but a special exhaust pipe wouold be necessary d for the stock (front) location. Would require a larger 235 carburetor if the intake was used. that would produce more power).
The 1937-1939 engines require a lot of little changes to get them to produce more power over 3000 RPM. They were designed to produce a lot of torque at low RPM's. What you can do to the engine dependson where you want (at what RPM) te power to kick in.To increase the power at higher RPM"s you will losse some at lower RPM"s.
Milling the head .125" will increse power and fuel mileage. Stronger valve springs and a 1940 and up fiber timing gear (will alter valve timing) will give a little more higher RPM power.

Thanks Gene!

Can you suggest any literature to learn more on enhancing a 37 216? Or any year 216?

How does the 40 timing gear change or improve valve timing? What about a different camshaft?

Anyone else out there that has been there, done that?
