Hey, over all looks pretty good. The cowl lights are Ford and should go. I know a guy here in Ontario with an original set he was selling. I could check it out for you. I guess you have sealed beam headlights installed for driving at night cause they don't look right. It also looks like the rubber covers are missing from the steering wheel spokes? Anyway a real nice car.

I like MoeDip's car and know that the interior iin my '30 sedan should be that same brown color. Have any of you had good luck redying the interior? I have done this a lot of times with exotics and other sports cars but that was with leather, not cloth. There are products out there that claim to do this job fine -- and they are made by the people who makes the leather and vinyl dyes. I just have never used them.

Thanks for the comments guys! She ain't perfect yet - I will have to set aside about $1000 next year to finish it off. Didn't know the cowl lights are not Chevy - but they are like new - will have to take them to the swap meet next spring and see if i can pull a swap. Though she starts on first crank and runs like a dream - I will still change the carb and search for an electrolock assy and distributor for it to make it original. I also need the boots for the shifter, e-brake etc (which I will order from Filling Station) and the seat adjusting handle. Then, once I do the running board mats - I can say it is done! For the rest of this year (2 months before snow) I will just drive it as she sits. Thanks again for the words of praise - I really like this car!! It is hard to tell which I enjoy more - my other toy (Mercedes) or this one! The technology between them is worlds apart, but both are unique. Servicing the mercedes is more precise, but servicing the Chevy is more fun. For example - the valve cover on the Chevy is held down by 2 nuts with a cork gasket - no leaks. The valve cover on my Mercedes warped a mere 5 thou of an inch and the 4 bolts that hold it down on the U shaped rubber gasket cannot stop the oil leak. The cover has to be machined flat on the sealing edge.

Moedip, Yes I did notice the cowl lights and then when I saw a Model A Ford I decided that it had Chevrolet cowl lights! Well now I guess I was wrong. But those you have are much better than NO cowl loghts specially when you are useing them for turn signal lamps. I think you have the right idea, drive it now and work on it later! Smetimes we get out of sync. and won't drive the car till it is "done" I have done that, having a fear that the old girl will break down and dissapoint me, make me think maybe it wasn't such a good buy after all!.... But then that old engine fires off on the first crank and gives you goose bumps!

Save your money for the shifting boot since there was no such thing in 1930. That's an aftermarket item that I&I reproduction came up with decades ago to make a few extra bucks. Good luck!

MrMack - thanks to your suggestion of fuel system and carb cleaner - the old gal has not stopped once on me since I did the treatment - guess it was varnish and gunk in the fuel system.

it appears in the picture the headlight stanchions are missing, 29 & 30 had stanchions. Also the business coupe did not have cowl lights. Check 60 or 75 years of Chevrolet for information! Further your front springs have been re-arched a little too much, which will give you a choppy ride. I am not trying to belittle your good work. Thought you might need to know as you asked! I think any restoration is a good one and I love the cars that are driven.

Talking of arching front springs, how much arch should be in them. It would be good if someone could tell us how much arch to put into the spring prior to installing it. I would guess that for a given distance from eye to eye the spring should be a certian height if laid on a flat surface. Does anyone know the correct method rather then guessing and trial and error by putting it in the car. Info for both front and rear would be appreciated.

I'm just back from vacation, and I might be a little out of it yet. When I got my front springs done a few months ago at Jenson & Mitchell here in Jersey, they said 2 3/8" from center of eyes to top of the spring. (laying on the bench). Like I said, I might be a little fuzzy on that, without running down to the garage.
Jenson & Mitchell has been re-bending springs for 50 years.
