I have seen a 34 Chev Coupe (not sure if it was a master or standard) in New Zealand many years ago that had a rear opening window similar to what is used in a Ford Coupe in the 1930's.
Are these common in America or rare?
Does anyone know where I might find the mechanism?

Chances are you saw a 33 or 34 Master or a 33 Standard that were sports coupes. They had rumble seats & the back window rolled down. The mechanisms are dificult to find. It also requires a regulator board & a different garnish moulding. The moulding is wide like the door mouldings....Joe

I put a 1934 chevrolet master roll down rear window mechanism in my 1935 chevrolet standard series coupe about 10 years ago.

I saw that 33-34 master roll down mechanism on ebay USA this morning. I looked thru my 1934 1935 GM of Canada build numbers by models, and it does not show any STANDARD SERIES DC - EC coupes with rumble seats which is where the roll down window is used, only the master series.

You will also need the special glass holder trac that has 2 holes for the mechanism arms to fit into. Seller on ebay was only showing the mechanism. My rear window molding was fine and cleared everything except for one screw that hit the mechanism. I and I reproductions in california also has the 2 rubber rollers for $5.00 that keep the glass heading straight. I use a vent window winder crank handle to opeerate it.

Be nice if you could also get the wood mounting piece as it fit right into my standard.

Putting that aluminum backed 1/2" thick wool insulation onto my firewall really cut down on the heat, plus put it under the floor carpet to keep the heat out.

With the side windows down , cowl vent fully open and the rear window rolled down you get a real nice breeze thru the car as its moving . BEST THING I EVER DID !

I used to have a 33-34 ford mechanism and it did not work worth a damn in the chev, would not roll up and down straight.

NOTE NOTE....your glass is going to have to be a lot longer, maybe 3"-5", make test window out of 1/4" plywood.
AND >>>> because you do not have the glass rubber stopping the water from coming in, your going to need a drip tray mounted back there with a slight angle and rubber hose to one side to go thru the floor .

Is it all worth the amount of work, YEAH !!!
