1927. Other previous years with some frame modification like relocating holes, changing mounts or cross members if '27 drive train is also used.

thanks chipper, if i understand your response, i can use about any early 20s frame as long as its no later than a 27

Each year frame is different from '27 and back a few years. '22 and earlier there are two different frames one for 490 and other for F (or earlier H) series. The also had a completely different springs (quarter epileptic) so they would take too much modification to make them practical. Not too sure about wheelbase on them either.

As an example the '26 has some frame cross members different from '27 and if I remember correctly also a body mount or two. Yes it can be used but modifications would be necessary. A friend was going to use a '26 frame to replace his damaged (collision) '27 and finally decided to fix the '27 as the modifications to get the '26 to work were too much trouble.
