i cant't get either of my two grease guns to "seal" on the alemites. the grease just squirts out around fitting.

how do they seal?

is there a rebuild kit?

any advice would be appreciated.

thanks,

joe

Mine has a little leather ring in the bottom that acts as a seal. You might go to a hardware store and get an "O" Ring that will fit in the bottom.

i did try a couple "O" rings with no luck. probably not using the right size. the grease comes out around the outside of the piston/valve that pushes into the grease gun. so how does the grease get to the center of alemite fitting? maybe if i understood how the system works i could fix it.

thanks,

joe

Have you taken the grease fitting out and made sure that it and the hole it screws into are not plugged with dirt, old grease and rust?

yes. so far only one alemite was plugged. the solution so far is to remove the alemite and temperarily install a regular zerk fitting. this gets the stubborn ones greased and the '31 grease gun will get the others. must not seal good enough to overcome much resistance, thus the oozing of grease around the gun/fitting.

There is a small ball with a spring under it that is depressed when the Alemite gun is installed on the Alemite fitting. You might want to check to see if you can manually depress the ball first. If it won't depress then the grease cannot be inserted into the Alemite fitting.

Hi,
Also make sure that the grease gun fitting is fully locked (fully rotated) and clips onto alemite nipple.
