I assume you have split rims and you have a tire spreader?

I hope you didn't put them on the wheels backwards, they will be really hard to get off, too.

I take it that you have the tire mounted on the rim already.

If you are working on a 1927 then the wheel is only 2 1/2 inches wide. Are the rims you are using 2 1/2 or 3 inch. The 3 inch is 1928 only.

You should not have a problem if you slide the valve stem through it's hole and then swing the rim down over the wheel.

something is not right, rims with tires mounted have always slipped right on the wheel for me. I did see a fellow have a heck of a time once because he put the rim on backwards (wrong side out)

If you put the valve stem in the hole and then line up the slot in the rim with rim bolt you should not have much problem mounting the rim on the wheel. However, if you have a bent rim (caused by not collapsing the rim correctly to put the tire on) then it can be a real challenge to get the distorted rim on the wheel.

Have you tried one of the other rims on another wheel, making sure it is the correct way round? As the others have said, this is not normally a problem unless you have the rim backwards, when it will jam if you persist.

I had the same trouble recently, and it turned out to be a slightly oval second hand rim, which must have been bent some time in the past - looked OK, and the tire went onto the rim OK, but the rim just would not go onto the felloe. After checking its internal diameter at several points the reason became obvious.

Frank.

If a rim is installed backwards particularly on a rear wheel it will not take too much driving before the rim will rotate and take off the valve stem. It normally takes a little hard braking to rotate the rim on a front wheel. That is why a rim bolt needs to go through the slot in the rim lock. Once you know that it seems perfectly logical but you have a 50-50 chance getting it right if you don't. It is one of those things that cause flat foreheads or "why didn't I think of that". Don't ask me how I know. No it was not me but a good friend called one day and asked if I had a new tube for his truck.
