I have a 1930 1 1/2 ton truck that is missing the seats. The local upholster suggested instead of building seat and back springs that he could shape form and back them with wood. I'm not sure what direction to go but I have had a hard time finding springs. I have old photos of the seats and back rest but did get the dimensions, if I go with the foam. I'm looking for someone that has the bottom duel seat and full back measurements and/or pictures. Thanks Bob

Hi Bob, you can have new spring units made at
http://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/seatspringsseatwood/trucks But it gets expensive if they don't have a patern. I made foam seat with good results. The only drawback is you don't sink as deep into the cushion as you do with springs. I used 3 densitys of foam, soft on the botom, medium on top amd firm around the edge to hold the shape. Your trimmer will know all that and probaly knows about Snyders as well. Good luck.

Thanks for the info, could you send some measurements. The trimmer I'm talking to has the idea and will measure the cab area but I still would feel better if he has something to go by. After the seats project I have to find a roof assembly or make one. Any ideas there. Thanks Bob

Sorry Bob, I don't have a 30 truck, the seats I made were for my 41 Woodie. Check with wood kit suppliers for Chevy cars and trucks for your roof. One is www.chevywood.com in Virgina.
Can anyone help Bob with seat measurements?

Bob,
I also have a '30 1/2T PU. The bottom seat dimensions are 20.5" wide, 17.5" front to back, 7.5" high front and 5" high in back. The seat back dimensions are 42.5" wide at the bottom, 45" wide at the top, 6" deep at the bottom and 2" deep at the top. The wood bases for the bottom seats have cut outs to clear the gas tank sending unit. They are both cut out so they can be used on either side.
If you have e-mail, I can send photos of the completed seats.

Bob, I can't speak to a 30 1 1/2 t, mine is a 32 1/2 t. It has a slight taper on the outboard side of each cushion, making them right and left, not interchageable. My seat cushions have a metal rim at the bottom to hold the upholstry material ( no wood ). The cushions for a 1 1/2 t may be different than the 1/2 t. Snyders has springs - check if they might have what you need. They do have some Chevy stuff.
